The Presbytery of Cincinnati met at College Hill Presbyterian Church on March 8, 2005. Here is a summary of what we did at the meeting DURING THE MEETING, WE… APPROVED CHANGES IN CALLS
GRANTED a vote in presbytery meetings to each of the elders currently serving as a Commissioned Lay Pastor: Vicki Abend, Presbyterian Campus Ministry at UC; Norine Behm, First Presbyterian Church in Manchester; Meg Doerzbacher, Cleves Presbyterian Church; Barbara Jean Havens, Cherry Fork Presbyterian Church; Sandy Fox, Eastminster Presbyterian Church; Kevin Jodrey, Decatur Presbyterian Church; Charles Jones, Bantam Presbyterian Church; Matthew Long, Georgetown Presbyterian Church; Charles Poston, Hopewell Presbyterian Church; Deborah Ramey, Elmwood-Carthage Presbyterian Church; Dale Roush, Winchester Presbyterian Church; Kevin Waters, Pleasant Plain Presbyterian Church; Lynne Wells, Bond Hill Presbyterian Church; and Lewis Wittman, Red Oak Presbyterian Church. WORSHIPPED and celebrated the Sacrament of the Lord’s Supper. Before collecting the offering for hunger ministries designated by Community of Faith Presbyterian Church and Oak Hills Presbyterian Church, we reflected upon our individual and corporate need to seek reconciliation with others and one another. Basing his sermon on the story of Zaccheus, Markus Watson (associate pastor, Union Presbyterian Church) encouraged us to identify and overcome the things that keep us from fully seeing and following Jesus. SHARED, as is the presbytery’s custom during Lent, a Simple Meal to show our solidarity with the world’s hungry. CELEBRATED the ministry of the Rev. George Reed upon his retirement. AMENDED the presbytery’s educational requirements for inquirers and candidates preparing to become Ministers of the Word and Sacrament. ELECTED people to serve on presbytery committees.
ELECTED representatives to the Synod of the Covenant: Anita Reed (Reading-Lockland Presbyterian Church) and George Reed (HR), Commissioners; Sabrina Smith (Reading-Lockland Presbyterian Church), Youth Advisory Delegate. VOTED “Yes” on proposed amendments to the Book of Order: 04-D, clarifying time limits on decisions made by PJC moderators and clerks; 04-E1abc, requiring church officers to report suspected abuse of children or adults with limited mental capacity; and 04-E2, allowing pastoral inquiries into accusations when disciplinary inquiries end due to the accused person’s leaving the Presbyterian Church through renunciation or by death. HEARD that the Presbytery Council made appointments: DISMISSED the Administrative Commission that installed Susan Duker as Designated Pastor of Oak Hills Presbyterian Church. ENCOURAGED sessions to develop child protection policies. REDRESSED the imbalance of ministers and elders eligible to vote at presbytery meetings. We requested the following churches to send one more elder commissioner than is required of churches their size: Blue Ash Presbyterian Church, Indian Hill Episcopal Presbyterian Church, and Union Presbyterian Church (to balance installed ministerial staff); Bond Hill Presbyterian Church, Carmel Presbyterian Church, Kennedy Heights Presbyterian Church, Korean Presbyterian Church, Third Presbyterian Church, West Cincinnati Presbyterian Church, and Winton Hills Community Presbyterian Church (to redress racial ethnic imbalance) Upcoming Presbytery Events
