Although we
have been meeting for many years, the Interim / Transitional
Ministers Group was given Network Status in 2008. There are
currently 19 members of the group – some are serving
churches, others are currently “At-Large.”
The group meets
each month for fellowship and support. We spend time
“checking in,” and a particular topic emerges as the focus
of discussion for the meeting. Group members receive
insight and encouragement, regardless of the topic.
Occasionally the group presents and discusses a particular
issue, often looking at the Five Tasks of Interim Ministry.
Interim
Ministry is a specialized ministry, and the Presbytery is
fortunate to have such a group. Interims serving in other
presbyteries often do not enjoy the support and fellowship
we have here.
As every pastor
should know, all ministry is (essentially!) interim
ministry. When a pastor leaves a call, the church is
well-served if a qualified interim leads that church for a
time. Each church should enter a period of review and
reflection between pastors. Cincinnati is blessed to have
its Network of Interim Pastors. Each of us is called to
this particular ministry, and we thank the Presbytery for
their support.
