2011 Annual Report |
In February of 2011 Pleasant Run PC and Northwest Community
Church joined together to minster to the youth and staff at
One Way Farm, a home for abused and abandoned children in
Fairfield, Ohio. Many of these children and teens deal with
developmental issues and other disabilities. For most, this
home is their last hope. Our mission among them would
include providing a meal and a bible study/worship time with
them twice a month. We received training on what to expect
from the Rev. Kris Moore, chaplain at Children’s Hospital.
Once we established our ministry we realized a need for
funds to provide the meals and materials for study and
worship. Our needs were met by a Mission Partnership grant
of $1,800 from the presbytery. Regular volunteers from both
churches have been enriched and amazed by our connection
with and ministry among “the least of these.” God’s spirit
has led us through lively conversations and prayers from the
depths of their hearts. We have formed deep and lasting
relationships with each other, the staff and especially the
children and youth.
In December of 2011 tragedy struck the home when two boys
got into a fight over a flashlight. One of the boys
subsequently died. The other has been charged with homicide.
This is the most serious incident in the home’s 34 year
history. The connections we have made with the staff and
residents have caused deep concern and pain in the hearts of
all involved. We are grateful to be able to continue to
minister to them during this very tough time. We know God
put us in that place for such a time as this.
Thank you for your continued support and prayers.
