History
When the Bond Hill Presbyterian Church was founded on October
17, 1875 the Bond Hill area was rural. In its varying stages of
growth, a second building was dedicated in 1899; in addition of a
single large room under the Sanctuary; Fellowship hall was built in
1950; in 1962 the church moved from the second Sanctuary into a new
building which houses the Sanctuary, Church Offices, Church School
and Fellowship hall.
The neighborhood has
seen many changes -- from farmland to suburbia -- embracing a white
and Jewish community -- migration of the black community from
downtown areas. The change in residents, aging and death
allowed for membership decreases.
Church sponsored
programs include a Child Development Center; Infant Satellite;
Growing Up through Teen-Age; Scouting; Counseling; Tutoring;
L.E.A.R.N.; Single Parent; Senior Citizen meeting Place; Released
Time Classes in Bond Hill and Swifton.
