The Presbytery of Cincinnati met at Trinity Presbyterian Church on May 10, 2005. Here is a summary of what we did at the meeting

DURING THE MEETING, WE…

Examined and approved Frank Rupnik for ordination as a Minister of the Word and Sacrament and called him as pastor of Bethel Murdoch Presbyterian Church.

Elected standard ordination examination readers: Janis Alling Adams (Mt. Auburn Presbyterian Church), Christena Alcorn (associate pastor, Knox Presbyterian Church), Tom Brackbill (pastor, Venice Presbyterian Church), and Nancy Schmidt (Pleasant Ridge Presbyterian Church).

Heard that the Preparation for Ministry Committee has enrolled the following as Inquirers: Brenda Bene (Pleasant Ridge Presbyterian Church) and Tom Emery (Madeira-Silverwood Presbyterian Church).

Approved changes in the terms of call for ministers who serve in permanent pastoral relationships (i.e., pastor, co-pastor, associate pastor).

Shared joys and concerns.

Elected Paul Jordan (St. John's Westminster Union Church) to the Committee on Representation and Jack Plattner (Knox Presbyterian Church), Mary Ann Jacobs (St. John's Westminster Union Church), and Ethan Raath (minister member at-large) to the Ecclesiastical Affairs Committee.

Heard that the Nominating Committee plans to recommend that the presbytery elect at its July meeting the following officers: Steve Gorman (co-pastor, Westwood First Presbyterian Church) as Chair of Council, Becky Lindsay (Community of Faith Presbyterian Church) as Moderator, and Erwin Goedicke (pastor, North Presbyterian Church) as Vice Moderator. If elected, they will assume office in September.

Voted YES on proposed amendments to the Book of Order:

  • 04-E.3. Adding to the Rules of Discipline Preface

  • 04-E.4. Imposing Administrative Leave

  • 04-E.5. Rights of Accuser 

  • 04-E.6. Disclosure in Alternative Forms of Resolution

  • 04-E.7. Providing for Victim Impact Statement

  • 04-E.8. Voluntary Acts of Repentance

  • 04-E.9. Initiation of Appeal in a Disciplinary Case

WORSHIPPED. Dale Andrews (associate professor of homiletics, Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary) preached on Mark 7:24-30 and posed the question Measuring Grace? Special music and hymns were from African and African American traditions.

Learned that the Council has appointed a Transformation Team: Melanie Alexander (Providence Presbyterian Church), Bernie Bernardino (Mt. Auburn Presbyterian Church), Erwin Goedicke (pastor, North Presbyterian Church), Jeff Hosmer (pastor, Northminster Presbyterian Church), Patrick Limbach (Mt. Washington Presbyterian Church), Alice Petersen (interim pastor, Crestview Presbyterian Church), and Tom York (pastor, Knox Presbyterian Church). 

Discussed with one another and featured speaker Dale Andrews the topics: preaching from privileged pulpits, mega-churches, and the use of various forms of technology in worship.

Approved the sale of a house owned by Norwood Presbyterian Church.

Heard that the General Presbyter Search Committee is receiving dossiers and plans to issue its next report in September.

Dismissed the administrative commission that installed Dawne Sarchet as associate pastor of Heritage Presbyterian Church.
