The Presbytery of Cincinnati met at Crestview Presbyterian Church in West Chester, OH on January 10, 2004. Here is a summary of what we did.

Shared joys and concerns in prayer.

Elected Elder Barry Harrison (Sycamore Presbyterian Church) as Treasurer and a number of people to serve on presbytery entities. In addition to the list that is posted at www.presbyteryofcincinnati, we elected Elder Sarah Davis (Mt. Washington Presbyterian Church) and Elder Georgana Taggart (Knox Presbyterian Church) to the Nominating Committee.

Celebrated the ministry of Elder Gordon Dennis (Presbyterian Church of Wyoming) upon the conclusion of 20+ years as presbytery Treasurer, Elder Jean Snyder (Mt. Auburn Presbyterian Church) upon the conclusion of 13 years as presbytery Administrative Coordinator, and the Rev. Santana Krishnan upon his Honorable Retirement.

Welcomed Donna Burckle (Immanuel Presbyterian Church) as the newly hired presbytery staff Bookkeeper.

Granted permission for First Presbyterian Church in Harrison to apply for loan for upgrades and additions to its facilities.

Encouraged one another to participate in the One Great Hour of Sharing offering.

Distributed an accessibility survey for each congregation to complete.

Authorized the Blue Ribbon Panel to administer the 2004 summer camp and conference scholarships for children and youth. Applications are available at www.presbyteryofcincinnati.org

Participated in "In Her Shoes", an interactive learning experience concerning domestic violence.

Worshipped with the Rev. Alice Petersen (Interim Pastor, Crestview Presbyterian Church) preaching “Where Are You?” when God calls. The offering will go to hunger ministries designated by Cleves Presbyterian Church and Winchester Presbyterian Church.

Encouraged one another to direct questions about the Meet You At the Table campaign to a task force that will answer them at the March presbytery meeting. Deadline for submission: Tuesday, January 20th. Mail questions to Presbytery of Cincinnati, 1323 Myrtle Ave., Cincinnati, OH 45206, fax to 513-221-6601 or e-mail to mail@presbyteryofcincinnati.org

Approved changes in ministerial relationships:

Commissioned Lay Pastors:

Celebrated the history and ministry of Delhi First Presbyterian Church as we concurred with its request to be dissolved as a congregation.

Appointed Session Moderators

The Rev. Terry Webster, Third Presbyterian Church
The Rev. Edwin Dykstra, Sycamore Presbyterian Church
Elder E. Norine Behm, CLP, First Presbyterian Church in Manchester
Elder Margaret Doerzbacher, CLP, Cleves Presbyterian Church
Elder Matthew Long, CLP, Georgetown Presbyterian Church
Elder Charles Poston, CLP, Hopewell Presbyterian Church
Elder Dale Roush, CLP, Winchester Presbyterian Church
Elder Lewis Wittman, CLP, Wheat Ridge Presbyterian Church

Disapproved the relationship and work of the Rev. A. Stephen Van Kuiken with The Gathering.

Approved amendments to the Book of Order proposed by last year’s General Assembly. If approved by a majority of the presbyteries, they would facilitate the implementation of biennial General Assemblies, allow more flexibility in synod structure, and increase the number of commissioners required to call a special meeting of the General Assembly.

Approved an overture to General Assembly for the transfer of Trinity Church in Fairfield from the Miami Presbytery to the Presbytery of Cincinnati.

Postponed until February 10th, the consideration of Administrative Commission 02-01’s proposed overture to General Assembly concerning amending the Book of Order to include provisions for placing congregations on provisional status. Also postponed until that date, the consideration of the AC’s recommendations concerning Mt. Auburn Presbyterian Church.
