Presbytery Meeting Top 5 List

The next presbytery meeting is scheduled for next Tuesday, November 11 at Madeira-Silverwood Presbyterian Church. 

Key items of business include (in proposed docket order):

  1. Consideration of an overture from the Mt. Auburn    Session concerning the death penalty in Ohio

  2. Examination of an inquirer for candidacy as part of his preparation to become a minister of the Word and Sacrament

  3. Consideration of a proposed amendment to the Presbyterian Constitution that would require all new members of a congregation to make a public profession of their faith

  4. Consideration of statements between the Presbyterian Church and four denominations:  Roman Catholic Church, The Episcopal Church, Korean Presbyterian Church in America and Moravian Church, Northern and Southern Provinces

  5. Dissolution of the relationship between the presbytery and Associate General Presbyter Yvette Dalton.

In addition, during worship, the presbytery will belatedly celebrate All Saints Day by giving thanks for the lives and service of elders and ministers who died during the past year.

Bing

Bing Summerell

The Rev. Dr. J. V. Cosby "Bing" Summerell (pastor emeritus, Lakeside Presbyterian Church) died on November 5 in Louisville, Kentucky.

After retiring as pastor of Lakeside in 1988, Bing served as interim pastor at Westwood First, Ludlow First,

Pleasant Ridge, and Covington First and as temporary supply at Immanuel. He served the larger church in many ways, including as Moderator of the Presbytery of Cincinnati.

Those who knew Bing especially remember his gift for praying.

A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, November 8.  Visitation is to be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. with the service immediately following at Second Presbyterian Church, 3701 Old Brownsboro Road, Louisville.  Phone:  502-895-3483. 

Bing's survivors include his wife Roberta "Bert", son Paul and daughter Susan.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be addressed to Redwood School, 71 Orphanage Road, Ft. Mitchell, KY. 41017, Union Presbyterian School Christian Education, 3401 Brook Road, Richmond, VA, 23227, or to CASA 510 W. Liberty Street, Louisville, KY, 40202

 

 

Church property auctioned

On November 6, the presbytery auctioned the property of the former Delhi First Church in Sayler Park, Ohio for $60,000.  The buyer indicated that she plans to convert the facilities into an art gallary.
